Art Supply Recommendations

People often ask me what art supplies I use, especially in my classes. The following is a list of items I either currently use or have used in the past. I research the heck out of things, so these are products I truly like and recommend.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, so please help support an artist -- me :) -- by purchasing some of these items via these affiliate links. Thanks!

PAINT BRUSHES I USE IN CLASSES

For gesso: Princeton Gesso Brush, 2"
For isolation coat: Blick Flat Mottler 2" (non-affiliate link)

For my paintings, I like the Princeton Velvet Touch, Summit 6100, Aspen 6500, and Redline Series. It's worth pricing them around at art supply stores. I've also lucked out buying batches of the pricier ones on Ebay. I find the Princeton Select and Royal & Langnickel Majestic series are excellent lower-priced brushes.

Large, inexpensive brush set that I use: Bates Paint Brushes - 4 Pack

I typically use Golden and Liquitex Heavy Body Paints. Liquitex Basics is an excellent lower-priced option.

Non-essential colors that I like to have:

If you're not quite ready to invest in a wide variety of heavy body paints, Liquitex Basics has some excellent student-grade starter sets that have a wide variety of colors, ranging from 4 - 72 colors.
